About Laura
Her photographs suggest somebody who never sits still, and half of that is right. Laura rides, skis, and spends her holidays walking up things in Italy, so the energy is real and the athletic build is earned rather than maintained. The other half is the surprise: sit her down at a table with good food on it and she slows to a complete stop, gives you her full attention for three hours, and shows no interest whatsoever in what happens next.
Twenty-five years old, 169 centimetres, athletic in frame, with long sun-kissed light brown hair and green eyes. English throughout. Breezy garden-party elegance covers how she dresses, which translates as light fabric, no heavy jewellery, and an ability to look correct in a hotel restaurant and on a terrace on the same evening without changing.
Horse riding is the oldest habit, from childhood and never dropped, and skiing is the winter equivalent. Italy is the recurring destination, several trips a year, which is where the cooking opinions come from. If Italian food is the theme of your evening, Bianka will argue with a menu in exactly the same informed way.
Laura is based in De Pijp, so the Albert Cuyp end of the city is her ground and the Sarphatipark terraces are five minutes from her door. Central hotels are a short ride, Schiphol a clean run south. Book her for a long lunch, a terrace afternoon, or a dinner that is allowed to sprawl. Adventurous and warm in the same person is a rarer combination than it sounds, and it is the whole of what she offers. Her arrival times are exact, her plans are flexible, and the two facts sit together without any trouble at all.
An evening with Laura
Spring or September, ideally, and start in daylight. Laura's ideal booking is a long lunch that is allowed to become an afternoon, on a terrace near Sarphatipark, a few streets from her flat in De Pijp, with the table held long after the plates have gone. She arrives with energy, the kind earned on horseback and on skis rather than in a gym, and then does the surprising thing: she slows right down and gives you three hours of full attention.
If the food is Italian she will have opinions, formed on several trips a year, and she will share them cheerfully rather than insist on them. In the evening, if the booking runs on, a second table somewhere small rather than a hotel bar, and a walk back beside the water. Nothing needs to be dressed up for. Light fabric, no heavy jewellery, correct on a terrace and in a restaurant without a change in between.
Laura is on tonight's board.
Laura is at her best across a long lunch or a terrace afternoon, so daytime bookings are worth asking about as well as evenings.
