Service DUO

Duo bookings, two lines from the board for one evening

A duo is two companions for one evening, booked together, arriving together and leaving together. It is the format for a dinner with two guests who would each like company, for a night out that wants a table of four rather than two, and for a host who is entertaining and would rather not be the only one keeping the conversation alive. Both names come from the board, and the desk pairs them, because not every combination works.

A duo is quoted as one figure for both companions, fixed in writing before either of them sets off. It needs more notice than any other format except an overnight, since two evenings have to align rather than one. The €180 opening hour applies to a single companion; a pair is priced as a whole, for the reasons the rates page sets out.

Why guests book two

Two guests, most often. Colleagues at the end of a conference, two friends in the city for a weekend, a host and a client. A duo gives each of them a companion and gives the table a shape that works. The second reason is simpler: some evenings are better as a group, a long dinner, a bar with a band, a walk along the water with four people talking over each other. The format exists because those evenings were being asked for.

How the pairing is chosen

Name both companions if you have already chosen them, and the desk checks that both are free and that the pairing holds. Companions have their own preferences about whom they work alongside, and the agency respects them. If you would rather describe the evening and let the desk pair it, say so; you will get two names that suit each other as well as the night, which is usually the better result.

  • Two names from the board, or a description of the evening
  • Where it starts and roughly where it goes
  • How many guests, and how long you have in mind

Notice, and why a pair needs more of it

Two diaries have to line up, and the desk will not send a pairing that has not been agreed by both women. Ask in the morning for the same evening and you have a fair chance; ask the day before and you have the whole board to choose from. At the airport hotels at Schiphol add the usual ninety minutes of travel, and in the cities down the line, two hours. A duo booked for Amsterdam Centrum at short notice is the easiest version, because both companions are likely to be inside the ring already.

What a duo evening looks like

Elegant, sociable and out in the city for most of it. A drink somewhere with a long table, dinner, then a bar or a walk, with the two companions carrying the conversation between them as easily as with you. It is a companionship format for a group, arranged and conducted as exactly that, and the same respectful terms apply as on every other page of this site. If the evening is to be split, two companions and two guests going separate ways after dinner, say so at the outset, because that is two bookings rather than one and is quoted as such.

Seating matters more than guests expect. A table of four wants a round table or a corner booth, not a row, and the desk will say so if you ask for a district. A bar with a band works because nobody has to carry the conversation alone, and a walk along the water works because the group can split and rejoin without anyone noticing. The evening usually ends where it started, at the hotel bar, with both companions leaving together at the agreed hour.

Pairs that work

Molly and Roxi share a taste for loud rooms, good cocktails and a joke at the right moment. Nora and Jasmin are both spirited, both quick, and between them know most of the counters in the centre worth sitting at. Stacy is bold and spontaneous and pairs well with either. Ask the desk and you get a suggested pair rather than a list. The curvy and aged 22 to 25 lists hold most of these names. The booking page sets out the message that starts a pairing.

Questions about duo bookings

How much notice does a duo need?

The day before is best, and the morning of the same day is possible. Two diaries have to align, and the desk will not confirm a pairing until both companions have agreed to it.

Can I choose both companions myself?

Yes. Name both and the desk checks that both are free and that they work together. If you would rather describe the evening, the desk proposes a pair.

How is a duo priced?

As one figure for both companions and the whole evening, quoted when you describe it and written into the thread before either sets off. Nothing is added afterwards.

Is a duo the same as two separate bookings?

No. A duo is one evening with both companions present throughout. If two guests want separate evenings after dinner, tell the desk and it is arranged as two bookings.
