Information desk, the questions that come up most

The questions below are the ones the desk answers several times a night. If yours is not here, send it on WhatsApp and you will have a reply in minutes, at any hour, including a straight no where a no is the honest answer.

How much notice do you need for a hotel at Schiphol?

Ninety minutes, and that is the figure we plan against rather than the best case. The train from Amsterdam Centraal takes about a quarter of an hour, but an airport hotel adds a shuttle, a car park barrier and a long walk at the far end, and the ring road southbound between half past four and seven in the evening can add a further twenty minutes. The Schiphol page explains the geography and where the hotel clusters actually sit. Inside central Amsterdam the figure drops to sixty minutes.

Can I arrange something before I land?

Yes, and it is the best way to do it. Message the desk from the lounge, from the aircraft if you have connectivity, or the night before, and give us your landing time and hotel. We hold the arrangement loosely until you confirm you are through the terminal, then fix the arrival time to the minute. Booking ahead also widens the choice considerably, since you are selecting from the whole board rather than from whoever is free in the next ninety minutes.

What if my flight is delayed?

Tell us as soon as you know and it is almost always absorbed. A shift of an hour or two is routine, and the desk will either hold the same companion at the new time or, if her evening genuinely cannot stretch that far, offer you alternatives who suit the same booking. Nobody is charged for an aircraft. What does not work is silence, so send one line the moment the board at the airport changes and we will handle the rest from our side.

Is there a minimum booking length?

One hour, which is also the only fixed price on the site at €180 for the first hour. In practice very few evenings are one hour long, because an hour is enough time to meet someone and not quite enough to enjoy it. Two hours is the most common booking and three the most comfortable if dinner is involved. Longer formats are all quoted on request rather than listed, and the reasons for that are set out on the rates page.

Can I extend the booking once she is there?

Usually, and it happens often. Ask her directly, or send the desk a message, and we will check what her evening allows. If she is free the extension is confirmed at the same hourly basis and nothing is renegotiated upwards because the mood improved. If she has a commitment afterwards the answer will be no, given straight away rather than left hanging. Booking the extra hour at the start is always cheaper in effort than arranging it at midnight.

Which languages do the companions speak?

English, fluently, across the whole board, which is the working language of every booking we take. Several companions speak other languages as well, and where that is the case it is stated on her profile rather than implied. If a specific language matters for your evening, ask the desk before you choose and we will tell you honestly who can hold a conversation in it and who can manage a greeting. We would rather narrow your choice than oversell it.

Can we meet in the lobby or at the restaurant instead of the room?

Of course, and a good number of bookings start that way. Tell the desk where you want to meet and she will be there at the agreed minute, dressed for that room. For a restaurant, give us the reservation time and the name of the place, and she will arrive as your guest for dinner with nothing about the arrangement visible to the table next to you. Lobby meetings work particularly well in the larger hotels around Oud-Zuid and at the airport.

Do you visit private apartments and serviced flats?

Yes. Hotels are the majority of what we do and the reason for the name, but apartments, serviced flats and private residences are all on the same basis, at the same fare, with the same notice. What we ask for is a proper address, a working doorbell or entry code, and one person expecting her. If the setting is a party or a group, say so when you book, because it is a different arrangement and it needs to be agreed rather than discovered.

How far ahead can I reserve a particular companion?

Days or weeks, and for a specific evening that matters, do exactly that. The board reflects tonight, but the diary runs further out, and a companion booked a week ahead is a companion who has kept that evening for you. We will confirm again on the day so that nothing rests on an arrangement made in another time zone. For a dinner in Den Haag or a night around a conference, early is the difference between your first choice and your third.

What should I expect to wear?

Whatever the room calls for, and she will match it. Tell the desk if the evening involves a restaurant with a dress code, a concert, a business dinner or simply a hotel bar, and she will arrive dressed appropriately rather than dressed for a photograph. Companions who come to a quiet address in the Jordaan dress differently from those meeting a guest in a tower on the Maas. If you have a preference, say it, nobody is offended by a clear instruction.

Can two companions be booked for the same evening?

Yes, for dinner or for an evening out with two guests, and it is arranged in advance rather than at the door. Name both companions from the board, or describe the evening and let the desk suggest a pairing that genuinely works, since not every combination does. The fare is quoted on request for the whole arrangement, agreed in writing, and confirmed before either of them sets off. Notice for a pair is longer, so ask early in the day.

Do you take bookings for business dinners and events?

Regularly. A guest at a conference dinner, a company reception or a client evening is exactly the kind of booking the agency is built for, and the companions who handle it well are marked by their profiles rather than by our enthusiasm. Give the desk the dress code, the start time, the rough length and the nature of the room. She will arrive briefed, on time, and entirely at ease with a table of people she has never met.

What happens if I have to cancel?

Tell the desk on the same chat thread as early as you can. Plans collapse, that is understood, and an early message costs you nothing. The difficulty is only ever a cancellation at the door, once a companion has crossed a city and is standing in your lobby, and we ask you to treat her time the way you would want yours treated. The terms page states the position in plain language rather than in clauses.
