The Erasmusbrug crosses the Maas in one white sweep and divides the city into two moods. How an evening here tends to run
A drink high up with the river underneath, dinner on the Wilhelminapier or around the Witte de Withstraat, then the walk back over the Erasmusbrug, which is worth doing on foot at least once. Rotterdam eats slightly earlier and drinks slightly later than Amsterdam, and the good places are spread out rather than stacked into one quarter, so it helps to decide the direction before you leave the room.

The fast line and the river crossing
From Schiphol, the Intercity Direct, running on the dedicated high speed track, reaches Rotterdam Centraal in about twenty six minutes, and a small supplement applies on that route. Slower Intercity trains take longer but need no supplement. From Rotterdam Centraal, the metro runs south under the Maas towards the Kop van Zuid, trams cross the Erasmusbrug, and a water taxi can carry you from the city side to the Wilhelminapier in a few minutes, which is as quick as it is enjoyable.

From the Euromast you get the highest public vantage point in Rotterdam, and Het Park at its foot is pleasant until dusk.
Distances between these sights are longer than they look on a map. Plan the evening in one direction, dinner on the pier and a walk back over the bridge, or the museum quarter and the Witte de Withstraat, rather than crossing the city twice.
